Russia cyber attacks are ‘major threat,’ Congress probe hears.

Russian cyber attacks pose a “major threat” to the United States, top U.S. intelligence officials told a congressional hearing on Thursday despite skepticism from President-elect Donald Trump about findings that Moscow orchestrated hacking of the 2016 election.

Although Trump called himself a “big fan” of the intelligence community on Thursday, he is heading for a conflict over the issue with Democrats and some fellow Republicans in Congress.

Many lawmakers are wary of Moscow and distrust Trump’s praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin and efforts to heal the rift between the United States and Russia.

Dozens die in ferry disaster horror as boat carrying football club and fans capsizes on Christmas Day

At least 30 people have drowned after a ferry carrying a football team and their jubilant fans to a friendly capsized in a lake on Christmas Day .

Police said there was a party on the “overloaded” boat and many passengers were drunk and playing musical instruments when the disaster occurred.

The boat capsized and sank in Lake Albert, in western Uganda, after too many passengers – who were not wearing life jackets – moved to one side of the vessel.

Cash chaos in Venezuela

CARACAS—Venezuela became a country without cash yesterday. As the country’s most widely used banknote went out of circulation, the higher-denomination bills that were supposed to replace the 100-bolivar note had not yet arrived at banks or ATMs. In the capital, people were relying on credit cards and bank transfers, or avoiding making purchases altogether. President Nicolas Maduro made a surprise announcement Sunday that the 100-bolivar note would go out of circulation by the week’s end amid the world’s highest inflation.

Ghana: Akufo-Addo wins presidential election

Nana Akufo-Addo of the main opposition party New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been declared winner and president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana declared the final results on Friday night with the NPP flagbearer beating the president by securing 5,716,026 votes making 53.85%. “By the power vested in me as the chairperson of the electoral commission and the returning officer for the presidential election, it is my duty and my privilege to declare Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana,” EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei declared.
